Note: All colored screen shots in this manual were taken with the program running
on a color-enabled handheld. These images will appear without color on other
Palm Powered handhelds.
1 Welcome
Right Back Up allows you to backup your Palm Powered device to a memory
card (or memory stick on Sony Clie devices).
1.1 Included Files
Included in this archive are the following packages:
Readme.txt
This short file contains information on registration, ordering the software,
and the license agreement.
Right Back Up.prc
This is the software package that you need to install on your Palm organizer.
Manual Folder
This folder contains both a text and html version of the users manual,
as well as an images folder which contains the graphics for the html manual.
To use the html manual, open it using any web browser. The text manual can be
opened by any word processor.
License.txt
This file contains the software license agreement. Please read this before using
the software. By installing, copying, or otherwise using this software, you
agree to be bound by the terms of the license agreement.
Order.html
This document provides a link to our web site to order the software. To use
this link, first open Order.html though a wed browser while connected to the
internet. Tap the link, and you will be taken to our web site.
1.2 System Requirements
Please refer to the Right Back Up product page at http://www.standalone.com/palmos/
for any updates to the list of supported Palm Powered devices. Throughout
this manual, Palm Powered device is used to refer to all of these units.

1.4 Reporting Problems
If you find a problem in our software, it would be helpful if you reported it
to us. To report a problem, please email us with Problem Report Request in the
subject line. The email should include the following information: the type of
Palm device you are using (i.e. Palm IIIx), the software name and version number
(i.e. Right Back Up v1.5), the error message, a brief description of how we
can recreate the error, and your name and email address so we can contact you
when the bug has be fixed
When reporting problems, it is best to email us, rather than calling, so that
the programmers have a written record of the information they need to solve
the problem.
2 Installing Right Back Up
When you first install Right Back Up, follow the normal procedure for installing
any third party software for your Palm Powered handheld. These instructions
can be found in your handheld user manual.
3 Using Right Back Up
This section of the manual explains how to use Right Back Up.
The Main Screen is a quick way to access all of the functions of Right Back Up. You are presented with a number of buttons. The first time you open Right Back Up, you'll see two buttons, "Backup Now" and "Schedule Backup":
If you've already performed a backup, you'll get the full range of options:
Tapping will initiate a Backup. You'll see the Backup Progress screen, and all of your data on your Palm Powered device will be backed up onto your memory card.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the memory card from your Palm Powered device while the backup is in progress. If you do, the backup will be incomplete, and the storage card itself could be corrupted.
To schedule automatic backups, tap the "Schedule Backups" button.

If you've already backed up, you can quickly restore the most recent backup by tapping button.This will open the Restore Backup Options screen. Here you can decide what to restore, and whether to first erase the device (thereby clearing out any old data).
You can view a list of all the Backups on a memory card by tapping . This will take you to the Manage Backups screen:
By default, the "Allow Multiple Backups" checkbox is unchecked. This means that each new backup will replace the old backup. If you'd like to maintain multiple backups, check this box. Then each backup will be stored. You can tap on a backup to remove it from the memory card, or restore it by tapping the "Restore Now" butotn.
If you'd like to automatically back up your device at certain intervals, tap . This will open the Schedule Backups screen.
Select an interval, and a time at which to perform the backup. The "Only backup when plugged in" checkbox applies only to those Palm devices with built-in rechargeable batteries.
3.6 Viewing the Contents of a Memory Card
You can view all the files on a memory card by selecting "Toggle Display" from the menu. This changes to the Card Contents display:
You can tap on a folder name to view the cotents of that folder, or tap on an individual file name to remove it from the card (NOTE: This can be very dangerous. Make sure you know what you're doing before you start deleting files from the memory card.)
There are several other options available via Right Back Up's menu.
Set Card Startup
If you'd like Right Back Up to automatically open when you insert your Memory
Card, select this.
Copy To Card
If you'd like to place a copy of Right Back Up on your memory card, select this.
