System Requirements

NRButtons was designed and written exclusively for the Sony Clie™ NR70 series handheld computers, running Palm OS v4.0 and later. This currently includes the NR70 and the NR70V. NRButtons will not work, and should not be installed on, other Palm OS devices.

Included Files

After downloading NRButtons, you'll need to either run the installer application (on a Windows™ based PC), or decompress the archive. If you download the Macintosh™ version or the Zip version, you'll end up with a folder containing a number of files:

NRButtons.prc This is the main application. You must install this on your handheld to use NRButtons.
Manual.html This is the HTML version of the manual. This is for reading on your desktop PC or Macintosh™.
ReadMe.txt This is a text version of the manual. If you've got a web browser, we recommend using the HTML version of the manual.
Images This folder contains all of the images for the HTML version of the manual.

How to Install NRButtons

To install NRButtons, you can either run the installer (if you're on a Windows™ PC), or install the PRC file using your Install Tool. For detailed information on using the install tool, please consult the documentation that came with your handheld.

Using NRButtons

NRButtons adds 4 buttons to the bottom display area of the Clie™ NR70's screen:

These buttons are available in every application. The NR Access button () will pop up a menu when tapped, allowing instant access to a number of applications and options:

The Single Click buttons will launch their associated application when tapped. This allows you to use the NR70 in tablet mode without having to open the lid just to tap one of the hard buttons.

Configuring NRButtons

When you first tap on the NRButtons icon in your Launcher (), you'll be taken to the main configuration screen:

Here you can configure the NR Access button (), as well as the three single click buttons.

The NR Access button automatically has two options (Configure and Applications, which opens the Launcher). To add additional applications, tap the "Add" button at the bottom of the screen, and tap the application you'd like to add:

To remove an application from the list, simply tap on it.

To assign an application to one of the Single Click buttons, just tap on the trigger (), and select the new application. To remove the button from the display, select "No Application" from the menu (). You can also assign a button to perform a scroll up or scroll down operation by selecting the appropriate item from the menu ( or ).

After configuring NRButtons to suit your liking, be sure to check the "Enabled" checkbox. If you leave this unchecked, NRButtons will not add it's buttons to the lower display area.

Advanced Options

If you're not content with only three Single Click buttons, you can enable some of the Advanced options to gain access to another four buttons.

If you check the "NR Access from Battery icon" checkbox, then instead of the NR Access button () being drawn to the left of the battery, you can tap directly on the battery to pop up the NR Access menu. This frees up an additional icon slot where the NR Button normally sits. You can select the application for this icon by tapping on the "Button #4" trigger.

You can also check the "Override Clock Area" to gain an additional three buttons. These icons will NOT appear, but tapping in the appropriate hot spot will activate the button. They're not drawn in because they would overlay the clock display.

Removing NRButtons

You can delete NRButtons from your Clie™ using the Launcher (select Menu, then Delete"), however you should first disable it. You can disable NRButtons by opening the application (or selecting "Configure NRButtons" from the NR Access menu) and unchecking the "Enabled" checkbox.

How to Register NRButtons

NRButtons will work for free for 30 days after you first download it. During that time, all of its features will be available to you.
