Stand Alone, Inc., was officially formed in the summer of 1995, with the purpose of creating a line of Newton OS Software which would showcase the platform. In the two years that followed, Stand Alone, Inc. became widely recognized as the largest Newton-only software company.

Since the demise of the Newton OS platform in 1998, Stand Alone, Inc. expanded its line of software to include Palm OS software as well as desktop Mac OS and Microsoft Windows platforms.
